Our Top Family Destinations for Spring Travel

Spring is in the air and it’s time for a break! We wanted to share some top family-friendly destinations for spring getaways in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean that one of our awesome suppliers, Excursionist offers. Because the family that travels together, stays together!

Whether you are looking for fun in the sun or fantastic skiing, Excursionist is on hand to help us design and deliver the trip of a lifetime.

The Family That Skis Together...

With the longer days and warmer temperatures that spring brings, guests can enjoy ideal soft-snow conditions and more time on the slopes! Excursionist’s preferred partner ski resorts will remain open well into April, and in some cases even through May and June.

Banff – Banff Sunshine invites guest to experience its famously long ski season with a stay at Elk + Avenue or The Fairmont Banff Springs until May 18. With a mix of runs, this mountain is great for both skiers and snowboarders of all levels.

Whistler – Experienced skiers looking for a dose of adrenaline can take off on a family-friendly heli-skiing adventure on Whistler Blackcomb’s pristine backcountry runs through April 13, then cozy up by the fire at the stately ski in-ski out Fairmont Château Whistler.

Aspen/Snowmass – Always a favorite, Aspen and Snowmass Mountains will welcome guests through April 19, and can be best experienced with a stay at either the luxurious ski in-ski out boutique Little Nell or the more family-friendly Limelight Properties.

For those looking for an opportunity to disconnect, our newly-added Colorado Villa Collection offers the utmost in privacy for family bonding.

The Family That Explores Together

The quiet Spring shoulder season presents often-overlooked opportunities to visit some of the United States and Canada's spectacular natural areas. Fewer crowds and ample hotel availability ensure a memorable holiday for in-the-know Excursionist guests.

Southwest National Parks – Daily highs in the low 70s in and around Zion, Arches, Canyonlands, Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon National Parks allow for programs with a greater emphasis on experiencing the great outdoors by foot. The summer rush of tour bus groups is nowhere to be found, while countless hiking trails and canyoneering routes that will soon become prohibitively hot are feasible in the spring. Enhance your trip with a glamping experience at either the luxurious Camp Sarika, the family-friendly Under Canvas® Grand Canyon or go completely off the grid and deep into the wilderness with a private, customized glamp camp.

Northern Alaska – Spring is also the best time of year to observe the dazzling aurora borealis in the far reaches of Northern Alaska. Venture to The Lodge at Black Rapids, a unique wilderness property located deep in the heart of the Alaska Range, for unparalleled night-sky viewing opportunities along with impressive ice cave hiking, thrilling dog mushing and plentiful wildlife viewing.

The Family That Eats Together...

Head to the Caribbean islands of St. Lucia and Jamaica for a sumptuous take on the family beach vacation. In between days spent lounging in the sun, experience their gourmet cultures one bite at a time.

St. Lucia – On St. Lucia, staying at either Anse Chastanet or Sugar Beach, rise early to embark on a private deep-sea fishing trip in search of tuna, wahoo or snapper, then meet the Caribbean's most talented chef for a hands-on cooking class where you will work as a team to prepare your catch and create an epicurean feast.

Jamaica – From Jamaica’s singularly luxurious Goldeneye hotel, head to a hip country estate for a private jerk cooking class that will allow you to smell, touch and taste the ingredients that comprise Jamaica’s famous seasonings.

The Family That Learns Together

Delve into the United States' fascinating history on an educational family trip that leverages our hand-picked guides' insider expertise and special connections.

Skipping lines and enjoying exclusive access with your expert guide, go behind the scenes of The National Archives, Ford’s Theater, The Library of Congress and even the Capitol Building.

Savannah – With the charming Perry Lane Hotel as your base, discover Savannah’s rich Civil War history, beautiful homes and historic Oak-lined squares on an immersive walking tour. Meet locals and hear their stories as you peek inside grand antebellum mansions, centuries-old cemeteries and private gardens.

The Family That Plays Together..

Often for multi-generational families, designing the perfect getaway is as simple as finding a hotel property that can meet each member of their groups’ distinct wants and needs.

Orlando – At the Four Seasons Orlando at Walt Disney World® Resort, guests can take advantage of a wide array of fun-filled on-property amenities such as the climbing wall or the lazy river, or they can simply relax and sip on a poolside cocktail. Just minutes away, Disney World’s brand-new Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge attractions await!

South Carolina – At the Montage Palmetto Bluff, experience southern hospitality at its finest while enjoying numerous activities such as horseback riding, shooting, boating, golf, tennis and more. Take care not to miss the Easter egg hunt replete with live music, games and a petting zoo followed by a lavish formal brunch!
