Inside the Halloween Horror Nights RIP Tour: A Full Night of Scares, Secrets, and VIP Access at Universal Orlando

Getting Into the Park Early: Annual Passholder & Scream Early Perks
This year, three of the haunted houses open early, at 2 PM, which means guests can start lining up for those houses as early as 1 PM. But early access isn't automatic for everyone. To take advantage of it, you need a valid Halloween Horror Nights ticket along with one of the following:
A Scream Early ticket add-on
A valid park day ticket
An Annual Pass
Once you arrive, team members check you in for a wristband at the park entrance. This wristband is how staff verify you're actually eligible for early entry, so make sure you have your Scream Early ticket, day ticket, or Annual Pass ready to show when you arrive.
As an annual passholder, I strolled into the park around 3 PM, picked up my wristband, and got moving. The moment I walked in, I noticed the Stranger Things 5 haunted house only had a ten minute wait, so I jumped in line and knocked out my first house of the night before anything else even got started.
Portraits, Bites, and Meeting Up Before the Main Event
Before diving into the VIP side of the night, I met up with my photographer for some Halloween Horror Nights portraits around the park and grabbed a few delicious bites along the way. From there, it was time to check in for the main event: the RIP Tour.
Checking In: The NBC Media Center (Not Cafe La Bamba!)
Here's a tip that a lot of "how to" guides get wrong: you do not check in at Cafe La Bamba. That's a common misconception floating around online. Instead, RIP Tour guests check in at the NBC Media Center, which is just a little farther into the park than Cafe La Bamba.
At check-in, I received my credentials for the night: a lanyard that says RIP, plus a collectible pin to add to my Halloween Horror Nights pin collection. From there, guests are directed to gather with their assigned tour guide.
Pro tip: If you want a specific tour guide, you can request them ahead of time when booking, either by calling directly or through your travel agent. If you're working with a travel agent, they can handle this request for you.
Before the tour kicked off, we were given complimentary bottled water to stay hydrated, and we waited for the rest of our group to arrive. RIP Tour groups can have up to twelve guests, so there's a short wait while everyone gets settled before heading out. One more thing worth knowing: if you need a restroom break at any point during the tour, your guide will work that in for you, so there's no need to worry about missing anything.
One of the biggest, and most underrated, perks of the RIP Tour is your guide's knowledge. Ours knew all of the backstory and lore behind the houses and the HHN characters themselves, so he was able to fill us in on details and easter eggs we never would have picked up on touring the park by ourselves.
Round One: Five Haunted Houses in Under an Hour
Once the full group was together, the tour officially began, and this is where the RIP Tour really proves its value. You skip every regular queue line, and you knock out every house in a given area of the park back to back, no backtracking required.
Our first run through the park covered five houses in the first hour alone:
Stranger Things 5
Evil Dead Burn
Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control
MADLANDS: Caged Cannibals
Ozzy Osbourne: Prince of Darkness
Considering the full RIP Tour runs about five hours, clearing five full haunted houses in the first sixty minutes gives you a real sense of just how efficient this experience is compared to waiting in standard lines.
From there, we made our way through Downtown Clown Town, one of this year's scare zones, though the rain had kept some of the scare actors off the streets that night. Perfect timing, though, because it meant we were right on schedule for our first reception.
Reception #1: The Cafe La Bamba Buffet Experience
This is where Cafe La Bamba finally comes into play, not for check-in, but for the RIP Tour reception. Inside, our group was treated to a full buffet along with a wide variety of drinks:
Complimentary sodas
Complimentary bottled water
A full bar (alcoholic beverages available for purchase, not included)
One of the best perks here: many of the specialty food items sold individually around the park during Halloween Horror Nights are included complimentary as part of the RIP Tour reception. I made sure to grab a sample of as many specialty bites as I could and snap photos to share, just keep in mind the offerings rotate nightly, so what I tried may not be exactly what's available on your visit.
We sat and mingled for about 45 minutes, swapping Halloween Horror Nights history with the rest of the group. I shared that my very first HHN was back in 2005, when the event was still held at Islands of Adventure.
We also had some bracelet traders at our table, a whole subculture within the HHN community where guests trade bracelets, keychains, and pins with each other throughout the night. One of them gifted each of us a bracelet, which I happily added to my growing collection.
Our tour guide even pulled out his phone to check in on his cat through a pet camera app, letting us take turns tossing the cat treats remotely. A small, unexpected, genuinely wholesome moment in the middle of a night full of scares.
A Bonus Stop: Catching the Stranger Things Lagoon Show
After we left Cafe La Bamba and started walking toward our second set of houses, I asked our tour guide what time the last showing of Stranger Things: Return to Hawkins was scheduled for. This is the new lagoon show that pulls clips and music from all five seasons of the series, framed as a broadcast from the fictional Hawkins radio station WSQK, "The Sqwuak." Turns out the show had just started. Without missing a beat, our guide redirected the group so we could catch it live before continuing on to the next house. That's the kind of flexibility and insider knowledge that makes having a dedicated guide so valuable. You get access to the "off menu" moments most guests miss entirely.
Round Two: Invasion, Bloodengutz, Sinners, Hellraiser, and Cybergoria
Fully fed and re-energized, we headed back out for our second wave of houses:
INVASION: Alien Abduction
H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular, set inside the fictional WKNB Television Station, the haunted broadcast home of horror host Larry Kurtzberg
From there, we made our way to the back of the park for:
Sinners
Hellraiser
And finally, over in the San Francisco area, we wrapped up our house lineup with:
Cybergoria
That brought our total for the night to ten haunted houses, all completed without a single standard queue line, one of the biggest selling points of the RIP Tour experience.
Reception #2: A Quiet Recharge at Lombard's
After Cybergoria, the group stopped for a second, smaller reception at Lombard's. No food this time, but complimentary soft drinks and water were available while we caught our breath before the final stretch of the night.
The Grand Finale: Nightmare Fuel: Blood Noir with Reserved VIP Seating
To close out the tour, our guide walked us over to Nightmare Fuel: Blood Noir, one of this year's signature shows, where RIP Tour guests enjoy specialty reserved seating. No scrambling for a good spot, no standing room only. Just sit back and enjoy the show.
Once Blood Noir wrapped, our tour guide officially dropped us off, and I made sure to tip him and thank him personally. He did an outstanding job all night, from house transitions to that spontaneous detour for the Stranger Things show.
The Last Hour: Wandering the Scare Zones Solo
With the guided portion of the night complete, I spent my final hour before Halloween Horror Nights closed at 2 AM simply wandering the scare zones on my own, soaking in the atmosphere one last time before heading out.
Final Thoughts: Is the Halloween Horror Nights RIP Tour Worth It?
Between skipping every line, clearing all ten haunted houses in one night, enjoying two receptions with complimentary food and drinks, catching a bonus show, reserved seating at Blood Noir, and having a knowledgeable guide who could pivot the schedule on the fly and fill us in on house lore we would have otherwise missed, the RIP Tour delivers an entirely different level of Halloween Horror Nights experience compared to a standard visit.
That said, the RIP Tour isn't necessarily for everyone. Here's how I'd break it down:
If you only have one night to experience Halloween Horror Nights this year, the RIP Tour is absolutely worth it. You'll clear all ten houses, plus shows and receptions, in a single visit instead of spread across multiple nights.
If you hate standing in lines, it's worth it. Even with an Express Pass, you're only cutting your wait time in half. You're not skipping to the front of the line, you're just waiting less. The RIP Tour skips the line entirely.
If you're an annual passholder, a Florida local, or someone who's planning to visit Halloween Horror Nights more than once this season, it may not be worth the cost. You have the flexibility to spread the houses out across multiple nights and don't need to cram everything into one visit.
